Connolly is a 140 year old British brand with a heritage in saddlery, evolving into a supplier of highly-finished leather for the automobile industry, with noteworthy clients including Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin and Ferrari. In the 1990s the brand was bought by Joseph and Isabel Ettedgui and the Connolly name became synonymous with British luxury supplying bespoke clothing, leather goods and accessories.
StudioSmall was asked to design and develop the new website with the main objective to make people fall in love with Connolly, both its quirky British history and its new re-invigorated vision. To reflect the rich and eclectic content, the website was loosely based on a pin board design that could feature campaign and product photography alongside short film and illustrations in a somewhat higgledy-piggledy nature. The desire for the brand not to appear too formal or to take itself too seriously was further enhanced with the humorous illustrations of a unique “Connollyland” originally conceived for Connolly by Heath Robinson in the 1920s, and brought wittily up to date by Rose Blake.
